Super Scrub!
We recently discovered a super new product – the Fairway SEA. It’s a fully waterproof underwater electric scrubber.
We have been using it for a few months now on board our Koopmans yacht. It has proved so useful for scrubbing the Coppercoat antifouling on the bottom and along the waterline, and also cleaning on deck. It has attachments to do polishing, sanding, and other things as well as a variety of brushes.
I’ve been a liveaboard cruiser for over a decade and one of the challenges of full-time sailing on your own boat is keeping the hull clean. There are always discussions about which type of anti-fouling is best, but no matter what kind you have and how effective, you still need to clean. We have Coppercoat on our boat, and despite how good that product is, we still need to clean regularly and reactivate the copper from time to time. We don’t have anything on our prop, so that needs extra attention and more regular cleaning.
We were looking for some sort of waterproof battery-operated device to help us with this, as manual scrubbing and sanding is physically exhausting and time consuming. The initial products we found were water resistant, but not fully waterproof, or they were strictly for professional use and super expensive.
