Where is SSG Now?

The map above shows the places Savvy Sailing Girl has been cruising.

But where is she now?…

Apr 2024 – Currently – Harlingen, Netherlands

Savvy Sailing Girl is soon to be back to sailing, yay! She’s still on land for a bit, but now in the boatyard and making ready for wonderful new beginnings and great adventures in Europe! Stay tuned for updates from s/v Dione-IV… starting in the Netherlands, with onward adventures afloat in France, Spain, Portugal, and beyond!

Nov 2023 – Jan 2024 – La Paz, Baja Sur, Mexico

Savvy Sailing Girl is heading to Mexico, but this time not as a Sailing Girl. She’s on land in La Paz for a bit of sunshine and snorkeling with the local whale sharks.

Feb 2023 – Oct 2023 – Here and There

Off to warmer climates, Savvy Sailing Girl was in Mexico, Arizona, and Roatan for the first half of the year. Now in San Francisco for a bit of summer… summer? Remember the quote by Mark Twain, about the coldest winter he ever spent being a summer in San Francisco. Yes. True.

Oct 2022 – Jan 2023 – Comox, British Columbia, Canada

Back up to Comox on Vancouver Island to finish up some extended/unexpected projects before waiting for a weather window to sail south to Mexico. There has been snow. Just sayin’

Jul – Oct 2022 – Port Townsend, WA

Time to work on out-of-water projects and Savvy Sailing Girl finds herself in the boatyard in Port Townsend, Washington. What started as a 2-week plan has now extended/expanded to almost 3 months. But good to get all things ready for the sail down the Pacific coast and into Mexico. Port Townsend is a lovely little town, everything is handy and close to the boatyard, and downtown is a terrific place to explore and enjoy!

Apr – Jun 2022 – Vancouver Area, BC Canada

Savvy Sailing Girl has migrated north for the spring and summer, and is now afloat just south of Vancouver. Lots of projects to ready the yacht for heading back south in the early fall, plus some sailing up and around Vancouver Island.

Dec 2021 – Mar 2022 – Mexico

Savvy Sailing Girl is enjoying some lovely beach time outside a small town on the west coast of Mexico… Swimming and walking miles along a pristine beach, gazing at blue-footed booby birds and pelicans as well as other sea-shore delights. Sailing is coming up again soon though! Yay!!!

July – Oct 2021 – Spain and Portugal

Savvy Sailing Girl spent the summer in Spain and Portugal. First was sailing in the Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, then west along the southern coastlines of Andalusia in Spain and the Algarve region of Portugal before heading offshore to Madeira, which despite being quite a distance away, belong to Portugal. In addition to the sailing, several “destination” highlights included Palma de Mallorca and Jerez in Spain, Porto in Portugal, and Funchal in Madeira. SSG did a quite complete tour of the three wine regions renowned for their fortified wines and will be happy to write up her findings once she recovers sufficiently. Hic! Hee hee.

May 2021 – ICW USA

The Intracoastal Waterway (or ICW) along the east coast of the USA allows boats to travel almost the entire coastline without being in open ocean. Savvy Sailing Girl spent several weeks motoring (mostly) starting in Miami and Florida with manatees, through the deep south and up to Hampton, VA in the mid-Atlantic. From mansion-lined canals to pristine marshes and quaint towns, this was a wonderful experience.

March – April 2021 – Croatia

Savvy Sailing Girl is spending a few weeks in Croatia for some pre-season sailing. Dozens of islands off the rocky coastline are enchanting and provide lovely picturesque marinas and spots to anchor.

Nov 2020 – Feb 2021 – Antigua

Savvy Sailing Girl enjoyed a few weeks in Grenada and then headed to Antigua to sail there and Barbuda for a bit. Crazy covid times these are, but safer here than many places around the world… not to mention that December in the Caribbean is quite delightful! A few weeks of sailing and then an Airbnb before flying back to the US for a visit with Mom.

Nov 2020 – Grenada
Savvy Sailing Girl sailed south with friends to Grenada. First Carriacou then Grenada island. The boat was hauled out for a few months and then SSG was dwelling on land in St. Georges for a bit.

Sept 2020 – Bequia, Grenadines
Savvy Sailing Girl is still in the Grenadines and loving the little island of Bequia! See the next island south of St. Vincent on the map below (shown as Port Elizabeth). The plan is to stay here through the hurricane season (November) and then who knows? Stay tuned!

July 2020 – St. Vincent
Savvy Sailing Girl is still temporarily land-locked, but no longer in the mountains of Arizona! She’s currently in mandatory quarantine after her flight into the Caribbean and awaits the second required covid-19 test. Despite that, and the hurricane due to arrive here in a few days, she is happy and looking forward to her next sailing adventure… stay tuned!
