The Algarve region of Portugal along the southern coast is beautiful and noted for, among other things, it’s population of storks. Huge stork nests loom above perched on churches, billboards, and just about anything else with a good vantage point.
Andalucia is the southern region of Spain and home to the famous fortified Sherry (or Jerez) wines. Sailing along the beautiful coastline from Puerto Sherry near Cadiz all the way to the Guadiana river was a treat!
The Mediterranean is gorgeous, one of the very special places in the world to visit… who wouldn’t love sailing there?
Savvy Sailing Girl had had the chance to join a boat in Mallorca to sail the Balearics (the islands of Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca) then the southern coasts of Spain and Portugal before continuing on to Madeira and the Canary Islands.
Motor-Sailing Over 1000 Miles
With contrary winds, the trip up the intracoastal waterway of the east coast USA was brief but scenic!
Loreto and Puerto Escondido…
Plus the “Happy Place” anchorage on the south side of Isla Coronado. It’s a beautiful place to sail and the wildlife is fantastic. Read on for a glimpse into this beautiful cruising spot.
1000 shades of Turquoise!
Kaeuhi, Fakarava and Makemo, then Raroia and back to the Marquesas. A beautiful tropical paradise, each place similar but different… all wonderful!
Fatu Hiva and Nuku Hiva
The beautiful and remote islands of the Marquesas, are part of French Polynesia. After a 3000-mile crossing from the Galapagos, the very tropical South Pacific is a dream come true…
The Galapagos to the Marquesas
It’s a 3000 nautical mile passage and the longest one that most any leisure cruiser will do. It takes anywhere from 3 weeks or longer and is quite the experience…
The AMAZING Galapagos!
I’ve waited almost a lifetime (literally) to visit this unique place and see my beloved blue-footed booby birds here in person. They did not disappoint. But wait, there’s more… penguins, flamingos, tortoises, iguanas….
Into the South Pacific
But first through the Panama Canal, then on our way to the Galapagos Islands. I had literally waited almost my entire life to visit the blue-footed booby birds there!
Aruba, Columbia and Panama
Santa Marta for the holidays and Cartagena in Columbia were wonderful as were the San Blas Islands in Panama.
Noumea to Luganville Adventure
Sailing the southern part of New Calendonia then across to Vanuatu was a great experience. We even saw Dugong!
The Rivers of Suriname
Cruising the rivers of the Republic of Suriname was a great adventure after crossing the Atlantic. Lovely people and places, plus “Binkie” the sloth…
Europe to South America
Sailing from the Canaries to Cape Verde, then across the Atlantic to Suriname. I had never heard of Suriname and all of a sudden I was headed there!
Coastal Cruising along Atlantic EU
Starting in Brest, France and ending in Lisbon, Portugal, this 2-week sailing trip was an enjoyable journey… especially the port tasting part!
Richards Bay to Cape Town
Sailing around the Cape of South Africa is an act of courage (think freak monster waves) but also an amazing adventure and experience – both by sea and by land with wonderful stops along the way!
Southern Italy – heel to toe!
Otronto for a few days then straight on to Sicily and Siracusa. Great location, great pizza… great!
The Ionion Sea and West Coast
Greece is beautiful no matter how you choose to visit, but sailing these regions and approaching by sea is especially magnificent!
Aegean to Ionian Seas, via Corinth Canal
Once again across the Aegean Sea and the glorious islands of Greece, then onward to new places westward!
